Maximizing the Potential of a One-Bedroom Apartment
One-bedroom apartments are not ideal. They’re compact and often lack sufficient space. However, don’t be discouraged.
Organizing, furnishing, and decorating such a space can be an exciting challenge. Let’s explore unique one-bedroom apartment plans for inspiration.
This 36 square meter studio apartment in Darlinghurst, Australia was designed with short-term rental in mind. Custom furniture is used to separate different areas, including a small kitchen, bathroom, sleeping area, and a space to relax alone or with guests. Catseye Bay Design completed this project.
To save space in this small Paris apartment, Batiik Studio designed a compact custom bedroom. Positioned in one corner, it features a black box with stairs, built-in LED lighting, and a shelf. The wooden interior creates a warm and cozy sleeping area.
The strategy by architecture firm studio raro is interesting. Instead of hiding the bedroom in a black box, they designed it as a transparent and open space. This small one-bedroom apartment in Trento, Italy has an open floor plan, creating a bright and airy atmosphere while ensuring privacy. The raised bedroom on a platform takes advantage of the high ceiling, standing out as a separate space.
It is encased in glass, connecting it to the rest of the apartment.
This is an intriguing one-bedroom apartment with a cleverly organized interior. It was designed by Iryna Lysiuk of The Interior Workshop. The strategy employed here is similar to one we mentioned earlier: encasing the bedroom in glass.
This choice serves two purposes: allowing natural light to penetrate the bedroom and creating distinct spaces with the glass walls.
Architecture and interior design studio Vão tackled a fascinating remodel project in 2017. The task was to redesign and reorganize a 50 square meter one-bedroom apartment in Pinheiros, Brazil. The owners desired a separate bedroom, but adding more walls would have made the apartment appear smaller.
To address this, the designers came up with a unique solution: a custom storage unit with open shelves, a TV console, additional storage, and a ladder. The sleek metal ladder provides access to the bedroom, which is located on top of this box-like structure.
This is a 38 square meter apartment in Sydney, Australia. The owners wanted to redesign the interior to add a separate bedroom for their daughter and more storage space, and to create extra room in the living area. To achieve this, the team at Anthony Gill Architects devised a clever solution.
They used a custom wardrobe unit to divide the daughter’s bedroom from the living room, and concealed the parents’ bedroom. The bed in the parents’ bedroom slides out when needed, but remains hidden the rest of the time, creating more space for different activities in the living area.
Not all one-bedroom apartment plans have to be customized or include drastic transformations to be comfortable and practical. This 28 square meter apartment is a good example. It doesn’t have a high ceiling so there’s no loft bed. There’s no bedroom in a box either. Instead, this apartment has an open-space design.
There’s only a curtain between the bedroom and the rest of the spaces, ensuring a casual and airy ambiance throughout. Check it out on kaskab.
This 42-square meter one-bedroom apartment offers ample space for a spacious and open social area, as well as a separate and comfortable bedroom. The kitchen, dining area, and living room are seamlessly combined in one room, which also has access to a small balcony. The bedroom is located in a corner area and features a window with a view into the kitchen.
