House R by B-bis architecten

House R is a lovely bungalow that studio B-bis architecten worked on in 2018. The structure is not easy to find as it’s situated on a ridge deep in the Ardennes in Liège. Its hidden location gives it a mysterious vibe, making it more interesting.

The architects’ task was to renovate the place to give it a modern look and feel.

The extensive renovation did not diminish the charm of this delightful holiday house. On the contrary, it is now even more stunning. Exterior walls were re-insulated and clad in wood, resulting in a warm and welcoming ambiance.

Additionally, the natural stone plinths and outdoor terraces were restored, while the interior received a discreet yet impactful makeover.

This beautiful house in Gent was recently renovated by studio aNNo architects in 2018. Originally designed by architect Minard in 1878, the 19th-century mansion now serves as both a home and studio. Despite its deteriorated condition, much of the house was salvageable.

The architects successfully merged the past and present, preserving the house’s authenticity. Its architecture allows you to transport yourself to the past, imagining what life was like in this house decades ago. The courtyard, in particular, stands out with its sheltered and intimate atmosphere.

This beautiful house is located in Ghent.

This beautiful house from Gavere has been in the same family for three generations before becoming vacant. It’s a charming house with rustic character influenced by the local architectural aesthetic and topography. It consists of three volumes: the main house, stables, and bread house, all clustered around a central courtyard.

All the volumes have gable roofs which blend into the local vernacular. The roof shape was preserved during the 2017 renovation by studio GRAUX & BAEYENS Architecten. They revitalized the house with a modern design but left some original features untouched.

This modern and beautiful house sits on a small site in Brussels. The property was originally occupied by two narrow houses. Due to their poor condition and impractical proportions, the new owners and the architects at K2A decided to unite the structures and create a single large home.

They preserved some original sections, like the brick facade, which gives the new house a 19th-century-inspired aesthetic. Significant changes were also made. The facade now opens up to embrace the garden, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.

This modern house occupies an urban plot in West Flanders, Belgium, where a previous structure once stood. Villa NTT, designed by studio Architectuuratelier De Jaeghere, replaced the demolished house. The new design features a slim and elongated floor plan with a gable roof.

The architects chose this layout to maximize the surrounding views and create a minimalist aesthetic. They achieved this by using white walls and a limited palette of materials and colors. The large glass walls facing the poolside area and garden establish a strong connection between the interior and exterior spaces.

This is a recently expanded house. Originally a small bungalow, it had spaces on a single floor. A large section was taken up by an indoor garage, which was a waste of space.

The owners decided it was time for a change and worked with studio WE-S architecten to transform the bungalow into a larger and better-structured house, better-suited for their needs and modern lifestyle.

The volume of the bungalow was expanded, turning it into a spacious and modern family home. However, the project had challenges due to location regulations, which limited the size of the extension. The architects worked within these limitations and created a new volume with a covered parking space at the front of the house.

They prioritized natural light in the interior spaces and aimed for a clean and modern aesthetic.

In the case of this modern house, the owners completely demolished the old structure on the site and built something new from scratch. There are no old elements infused into the design but the house is in sync with its surroundings. It blends into the community perfectly.

The project was completed by Atelier Vens Vanbelle in 2015.

Every project faces challenges, and in this case, the sloping terrain prompted the architects to design a plan that responds to the unique topography of the site. Studio UAU Collectiv created a house that embraces its surroundings by organizing the main volume around a central patio. While the street-facing facade prioritizes privacy, it still maintains a connection to the surroundings.

Large glazed surfaces and corner spaces create a strong relationship between the indoor spaces, garden, and surroundings. The upper floor contains the private rooms, which maintain a connection with the outdoors through large windows with blinds. This design provides flexibility to enjoy natural light and privacy as desired.
