Every section of a house has its unique look and design strategies vary based on the function of the space. Today, we’re focusing on balconies, terraces, and areas that connect a structure to its surroundings. Let’s explore some homes and buildings with stunning indoor-outdoor spaces to inspire your own balcony or terrace design.
This beautiful place in Mexico City is the headquarters for Fundación Casa Wabi. It’s a large house with a ground-floor furniture store, a gallery space, and two stunning courtyards. Studio Taller de Arquitectura X / Alberto Kalach restored and designed the space.
The interior courtyards, which are simple yet stunning, bring in natural light and fresh air.
This house in Jacona, Mexico was transformed by studio TAAB. The outdoor area, previously covered in grass, was landscaped to include beautiful terraces that seamlessly connect the indoor areas with the garden. Reinforced concrete pyramidal coffers were used for the roof sections, and lush greenery and stone slabs were added to completely transform the space.
This house is unusual as it consists of smaller sections connected around a patio. It was chosen to preserve the existing trees, and it also allows different volumes to enjoy sunlight and have a connection to the outdoors.
This house, located in Merida, Mexico, is centered around a garden that fills the interior spaces with light and freshness. Additional sections, like the double-height open foyer surrounded by plants, emphasize the close connection between the house and its surroundings. The bedrooms each have a balcony with stunning views, and the living areas have direct access to the courtyard.
Xavier Salas Arquitectos completed this project.
Given the rugged topography and specific location, the design of this house had to adapt, resulting in a unique project. Studio Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos chose a linear design to take advantage of the panoramic views and natural formations. The house is composed of cascading volumes, with terraces that connect indoor and outdoor spaces.
The existing vegetation was preserved and additional green areas were incorporated.
This is a lovely family house in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. The sloped site is surrounded by scenic views of the forest and mountains, and the house maximizes its location. Designed by studio Broissin, the house takes inspiration from the land and topography.
The interior features expansive glass walls, windows, and a large terrace that offers a stunning view of the valley. Additionally, the house incorporates green roofs that seamlessly integrate with the natural surroundings.
This cozy place in Mexico was designed by CC Arquitectos using locally-sourced materials and recycled resources, blending in naturally and authentically. The house sits on the site’s edge, offering a beautiful view of the nearby lake. Its placement preserves existing trees and vegetation, as the primary objective was to minimize the building’s impact on the surroundings.
Featuring a spacious terrace, the house seamlessly extends living areas outdoors, embracing the serene and tranquil environment.
This garden is part of a concrete jungle, situated on top of a building in Mexico City. The project transformed a deserted rooftop into an indoor garden where visitors can unwind and enjoy the greenery and sunlight in the middle of the city. Studio MMX completed this unique transformation.
