The design resembles a regular backyard deck, but with water instead. Built-in and picturesque.

This seating area is exposed, but feels warm and cozy as it’s built into the deck and has a fire pit at the center. Comfortable benches occupy three sides, with additional seating space around them. A darker wooden rim creates a clear distinction from the rest of the deck.

Concrete is a fitting material for modern and contemporary designs. A concrete seating area can enhance the beauty of a backyard or garden by providing a contrasting yet appealing element. Look at the conversation pit at W Hotels Retreat & Spa on Vieques Island, designed by Patricia Urquiola, for inspiration.

This gorgeous seafront house in Corsica features multiple areas that serve as extensions of indoor living spaces, each shaded by pergolas. Fire and water coexist here in an unexpected and inspiring setup. Studio Randy Angell Designs, in collaboration with Pool Environments, created a swimming pool with a sunken lounge surrounded by water and floating stepping stones. The lounge features a focal point fire pit and comfortable seating.
