Beach house in the middle of a tall forest

Kevin Brown

Picturing a beach house, one typically assumes it is close to the beach with a view of the water and sand. However, this contemporary summerhouse breaks that convention by being situated in the middle of a forest next to the beach road. Constructing the house was challenging as the site was mostly covered in mature trees, necessitating their removal to make space.

This was a sacrifice the owners were willing to make.

The residence is divided into private and public spaces. The private area has bedrooms and a garage housed in two towers designed as sawn tree stumps. The house has a compact yet irregular design with interior spaces carved out of the cut wood.

The two towers connect through a public area. The design, both inside and out, is minimalist and contemporary. The location, while unusual, is stunning. Surrounding the house are preserved, beautiful trees.

Although I appreciate the trees, they can appear eerie at night.
