Cool House Features Large Conservatory Volume

We’ve seen a lot of cool houses and yet there are still new projects that impress us. One recent discovery is a unique residence located outside Pretoria in South Africa. It was developed by architect Nadine Englebrecht and it’s an off-grid home with character.

First of all, what stands out is the conservatory at the heart of the house.

This text serves as the inspiration for the project’s name: the Conservatory House. It has a gabled roof and glazed facades facing North and South, allowing ample natural light and framing scenic views due to its well-thought-out orientation.

The house was partially built into a hillside on sloping land. Grass covers one side of the roof, connecting the building to its surroundings and establishing a strong outdoor connection. It’s important to note that this is a barn-style house, adding character and charm.

When it comes to interior design, the spaces are bright, airy, and welcoming. The style is eclectic, including sleek and modern elements like the large kitchen island, as well as rustic and industrial details such as exposed brick surfaces and furniture pieces.
