Creative Ways to Repurpose Altoids Tin Cans
Altoids, a brand of breath mints, has been around since the 18th century. While they were originally from Britain, they are now more widely available in exported countries. The iconic shape of the Altoids tin cans has made them a symbol in their own right.
These cans are incredibly versatile and can be repurposed in numerous ways. Here are a few examples:
Message board.
If you have Altoids tins, spray paint, epoxy, pliers, a drill, magnets, and a magnet with a handle, you can create a message board. Clean the tins and push the metal flaps inside with pliers. Drill a small hole in the top corners of two tins. Spray paint the cans and the magnet with a handle.
Use the magnet with a handle for the tin that will function as a key holder. Arrange and attach the tins to the wall as desired.
For this project, you only need one tin can. Spray paint the tin and select a few photos that fit inside. Connect the photos with ribbon and place them in the can.
You can also decorate the exterior and interior with ribbon or anything else you want.
A small tin can make a great planter. Spray paint it or leave it as it is. Add organic soil and stones.
Place the plant inside and enjoy. Choose a succulent, flower, or even a tiny bonsai tree if the tin is big enough.
Tin travel candle.
Another idea is to create a travel candle. Gather an Altoids tin, candle wicks, wax, mod podge, decorative paper, a pencil, scissors, a paintbrush, and wax coloring or scents. Clean the tin and trace the top and bottom on paper. Cut out the shapes, glue the paper onto the tin’s exterior, and apply a thin layer of mod podge over it.
Let it dry. Glue the wicks onto the base, heat the wax, and pour it into the tin.
You can use an Altoids tin as a container for cuticle cream when traveling. You’ll need 1.5 ounces of beeswax, 3 ounces of apricot kernel oil, and a tablespoon of honey. Mix the wax and oil in the microwave, stir in the honey, and pour the mixture into the tin can.
