10 Beautiful Modern Houses in France
France is home to numerous beautiful houses that showcase versatile and widespread design strategies. Here, we present ten modern houses that stand out in their unique ways.
Le Pine House
This beautiful family summer retreat by SAOTA in Saint-Tropez features a contemporary interpretation of traditional Mediterranean Riviera architecture. It stands out amidst its surroundings, with a pine meadow to the south creating a stunning backdrop. The house’s location amidst trees and vegetation establishes a strong connection with the outdoors.
Large openings and skylights bring light and views into the house, complementing the open spaces. Clerestory windows offer glimpses of the pine canopies, strengthening the relationship with the surrounding nature. The undulating ceiling mimics the site’s slopes.
The internal sections extend onto covered outdoor spaces, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.
This house on Corsica island blends seamlessly into the timeless beauty of its surroundings. The walls made of granite mimic the natural terrain, while the chestnut trees frame the house, helping it transition into the landscape. The stone wall that borders the site and the matching flooring give the property an ageless appearance.
This is a holiday retreat and guest house. The architects built an extension in 2017, adding common areas and bedrooms to the main house. They placed the extension at the back of the plot, detached from the main house but still connected.
This creates a homogenous structure with two separate volumes that blends into the landscape naturally.
Three large volumes can be found within the house: a spacious garage, an entrance and kitchen area, and a living room and bedroom section. The total number of bedrooms is four, including the master suite. Despite being distinct structures, the two buildings converge at the center and have similar designs.
They mirror each other’s style while possessing unique characteristics, creating a stunning refuge on this land.
An extension that redefines nursing homes
Located in Vaucouleurs, this nursing home resembles a house, featuring a modern and simple design with striking architectural details. Positioned on a slope, the building offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Taking advantage of this, the architects at Studiolada incorporated expansive bay windows and created inviting outdoor spaces, allowing residents to bask in the sunshine and relish the picturesque scenery.
The combination of wood and stone used for the building’s main structure enables it to blend seamlessly with its surroundings while also providing a welcoming, cozy, and warm atmosphere. The interior spaces are spacious, open, and well-ventilated due to the use of a variety of materials and finishes. The simplicity of the decor, combined with the high ceilings, exposed beams, and large windows that allow ample natural light to enter, further enhance the overall ambiance of the house.
This modern home, designed by Maud Caubet Architects for an art collector, is located in Lit-et-Mixe. It is surrounded by a pine forest, with the beach just 500 meters away. The structure seamlessly blends into its natural surroundings, maintaining a modern design with clean lines, angles, and eye-catching geometry.
This effect is achieved through the use of dark wood, which covers the entire exterior of the building.
The house has an H-shaped floor plan and is partially supported by stilts, in response to the sloping site and topography. Its design elements were inspired by the surroundings, resulting in a dark wood exterior that blends with the pine trees. This house is immersed in nature while maintaining a strong character.
The H-eva Cabin
This 22-square-meter cabin was designed by studio A6A. It’s a prefab structure located in Ustaritz and features a modern, modular design. It can be easily transported and installed in a short amount of time.
The modules come in different sizes and can be combined to create interior spaces ranging from 16 to 38 square meters.
The cabin blends into its surroundings and coordinates with tree-filled areas. Its design is simple, modern, and features a low pitched roof, large windows, and a dark exterior that contrasts with the light, neutral interior. The interior spaces are seamlessly connected, forming an open floor plan.
Glazed sections bring in lots of light and frame the views, creating a strong connection to the outdoors.
This bright and open house in Montpellier consists of two main structures: the original house and an extension added by Brengues Le Pavec architectes in 2018. The extension was built to maximize the location’s proximity to a public park, a feature lacking in the original house, resulting in a striking contrast between the two structures.
The new section is a large and open leisure space that contrasts with the dark and compact main house. Glass walls and sliding doors surround the structure and lead to a covered terrace. With this extension, the architects have maximized the site’s potential.
Built in 2016, Villa Eiders is a modern residence in Lege-Cap-Ferret. It’s a two-story structure with a total of 405 square meters of living space organized into distinct volumes. Designed by Touton Architectes, the interior spaces form a U-shape around a courtyard, framed by the swimming pool.
The street-facing facade is opaque with wood and concrete, maintaining a simple and modern aesthetic. The rear of the house is open and transparent with full-height windows on both floors, offering views of the courtyard and the pine forest.
The Edut house extension
This house in Caluire-et-Cuire features a beautiful and unusual 3-story structure with a new extension added in 2017. Designed by studio Dank Architectes, the owners wanted to expand the small living room and give it a minimalistic and contemporary style while incorporating a terrace into the design. The architects created a stylish and sophisticated extension that blends with the existing building, has a separate entrance, and seamlessly connects to the terrace and garden.
Inside, there is an open kitchen and dining area with access to the outdoors.
Believe it or not, this modern house was built in 1991. It’s located in Saint-Cloud, on a hillside overlooking Paris. It was a project completed by studio OMA. The initial request from the clients was for a house with two sections designed to house two generations.
They also wanted a rooftop pool with a view of the Eiffel Tower. The architects fulfilled the requests and came up with a beautiful design for the house, taking advantage of the topography and orientation.
